Back in 2015, we were a design studio, crafting everything from electric bikes to harbor cranes. Overworked, stuck in endless projects. But eventually, we felt the pull for something different, something interesting enough that was worth us closing our studio and gaving it a shot. In the winter of that year, by the rugged coastline of Chengmai, we found our spark. Inspired by the timeless work pants worn by local clam diggers which were tough, durable, and softened by time. That’s when we knew we wanted to create something with that same balance of resilience and character.

But saying, “We have an idea!” and making 2D drawing was the easiest part—turning it into a real product? Not so much. After 12 months of refining material and inner structure, we finally hit the sweet spot, a design that didn’t just do the job but actually felt good to carry.

In March 2016, we launched our first product, the Fisherman Backpack, at a pop-up exhibition in downtown Shanghai. The Backpack’s material, the look and the touch,  stood out from the crowd. Still remember our team cracked open beers to celebrate selling out all 20 pieces bags in the first weekend.

Today, KIWEE is all about versatile, whether you’re heading out for a short trip, a weekend adventure or simply your daily commute. We believe that the essentials stay the same: light-weighted, durable and comfortable.

For us, creating KIWEE has been about taking that first step off the expected path and discovering what’s possible. We hope that in every bag, you find that same feeling—the one that says, “I’m not born to work like a robot.”
